Welcome back to Shut Up and Choose.

This is the podcast where we cut through the noise, the nonsense, and all the bullshit internet gurus and Instagram gods keep throwing at you about weight loss.

Before we get into today’s episode, I want to address something personal. I took last week off because my mother passed away. She was 89 years old. Her name was Edie Ressler.

She had Alzheimer’s and dementia, and while that doesn’t make it easy, there’s some peace in knowing she’s finally at rest.

Mom, I love you. You were an incredible woman, and you will be missed.

Now let’s get into the episode.

The Water Obsession Is Out of Control

Today we’re talking about water.

Yes. Water. The most basic thing on the planet, somehow turned into a full-blown internet circus.

You need a gallon a day. You need a half-gallon jug with inspirational timestamps. Your pee has to be crystal clear or you’re basically dying.

Shut the fuck up.

You do not need to drown yourself in water to lose weight. Water is not magical fat-melting acid from a sci-fi movie.

And you definitely don’t need a Stanley cup big enough to bathe a dog in just to be healthy.

Unless you’re training like an Olympian or wandering through the desert, this obsession is just another diet-industry overcomplication designed to get likes.

What Water Actually Does

Hydration isn’t about perfection. It’s about consistency.

Water doesn’t burn fat directly. It helps your body function the way it’s supposed to.

That means better appetite control, digestion, metabolism, and energy. The stuff that keeps you from raiding the pantry at midnight.

False Hunger

You think you’re hungry. You wander into the kitchen. Ten minutes later you realize you weren’t hungry at all.

You were thirsty.

Your brain is terrible at telling the difference. If your hydration is garbage, your body sends hunger signals.

Drink water and watch how many snack urges disappear.

Digestion and Metabolism

You can eat all the protein and vegetables you want. If your digestion is backed up, good luck losing fat.

Water keeps things moving. Literally.

It also helps keep your metabolic engine running. Drinking cold water even gives it a small bump. Not a miracle. Still helpful.

Energy

If you feel foggy, tired, and unmotivated, odds are you’re dehydrated.

When you’re dragging, you reach for sugar and caffeine.

Hydration fixes that loop.

The Gallon-a-Day Lie

You do not need a gallon a day.

This is not a competitive sport. No one gets a medal for peeing every ten minutes.

Most people aren’t under-hydrated because they’re lazy. They’re under-hydrated because they’re distracted.

Overcorrecting with 120 ounces leads to bloating, frustration, and quitting.

Hydration isn’t about volume. It’s about timing and consistency.

Steady sips beat shotgun chugging.

Three Simple Hydration Hacks

1. Water Before Coffee

Your body hasn’t had water in seven or eight hours.

Before your phone. Before coffee. Drink 12 ounces of water.

It wakes your system up and sets the tone for the day.

2. Drink Before Meals

Drink water 15 to 20 minutes before eating.

It takes the edge off hunger and helps digestion.

3. Make Water Taste Good

If you hate plain water, you’re normal.

Add lemon, lime, cucumber, mint, or berries.

Do not buy fake detox garbage.

Anchor It to Your Life

Habits stick when they’re attached to things you already do.

Glass by the bed. Drink when you wake up.

Sip when you sit down to eat.

Sip when you open Netflix.

Hydration should happen without thinking.

Your Non-Challenge Challenge

Tomorrow morning, drink 12 ounces of water before anything else.

Before meals, take a few intentional sips.

That’s it.

Hydration is fuel, not punishment.

You don’t need to be perfect. You need to be consistent.

Final Thoughts

Water isn’t sexy. It works.

No gallon jug. No spreadsheet. No guilt.

Small choices stack.

Fill your glass. Drink it. Repeat.
